NONA'S KNITTINGS :: Welcome!

Knitting is a lifelong skill that happily can begin in childhood. It can be passed down through generations or learned anew. As with other skills, the more you do it, the better you get and the greater your sense of achievement.

My Nona (my grandmother) taught me how to knit when I was seven years old. We would start out by looking at patterns, feeling the texture of the yarn and choosing the color that pleased us. I would sit outside with her day after day, sometimes for hours at a time. She would answer all my questions, even the silly ones. When I made mistakes, she would show me how to fix them, each time. Sometimes we had to start all over again to get it just right. And when we did, and the project was finished, we were so proud. Now, 35 years later, whenever I knit or crochet, I feel Nona’s presence and am grateful for all that we shared through her gift of knitting.

On this website, Nona’s Knittings, I hope to carry her gift forward, inspiring other little girls (and boys) to discover the joys and rewards of knitting. See NONA’S CAMPS and PARTIES on this site for a fun and supportive way to teach your child how to knit and bring home that first completed project.

Happy Knitting!
